 The term "gunslinger" was coined in the 20th century, after barbed wire killed the age of the cowboy. In the Old West, "gunman" was the term for those ruthless enough to live by their skills at murder, or their ability to enforce justice. It was then that one's willingness to pull the trigger could mean the difference between life and death.
