"The Tale of the Gun"

Semi-automatic handguns have a relatively short history, not much more than 100 years.

The self-contained cartridge didn't come along until 1848.

Then came the derringer which was followed by the revolver developed by Colt and Smith and Wesson. Revolvers are super reliable guns that are limited to six or seven shots for mechanical reasons.

This video discusses the Borchardt C/93, a self-loading pistol developed on 1893, the first semi-automatic handgun.

It was designed by Hugo Borchardt and was one of the earliest widely available semiautomatic models.

Its German manufacturer, Ludwig Loewe & Co., carved out amazing technologies that would eventually find their way into the more historically significant Luger.
