The gunsmiths at Marine Corps Base Quantico, in Virginia, take civilian-strength Remington 700 bolt-action rifles to produce the M40 -- the USMC's sniper rifle of choice. Their talents make possible the addition of a detachable magazine or sound-suppression capabilities. Incidentally, the Army uses a modified R700 for their own sniper rifle, the M24.
